In our last update, we talked about recommendations made by the Rental Housing Task Force to improve security and fairness for renters and landlords throughout the province. Since then, BC government has announced that it is moving forward with implementing these recommendations and laid out a 3-phase plan to address the concerns voiced in the document. Phase 1 is already happening; phase 2 by the end of this year and phase three in 2020. We hope that with these steps the rental climate in the province will see a shift towards fairness and stability.
BC’s network of RentSmart Educators has expanded to add 18 exceptional and dedicated individuals that have attended our recent Educator workshop in Surrey. We are thrilled to welcome Educators from Bowen Island, Burnaby, Hope, Nanaimo, Richmond, Smithers, Surrey, Terrace, Vancouver, Vernon and Whistler, and look forward to seeing the RentSmart program unfold or expand in these communities. We’d like to use this opportunity to thank Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association (FRAFCA) for their hospitality in hosting the workshop. The next Educator workshop is scheduled to run in Victoria (September 30 – October 3, 2019), so if you’d like to have another Educator trained to run RentSmart courses for your clients, book your seat now.
