Hi BC Educators,
The big news this month is that the eviction moratorium has been partially lifted in BC. This means a landlord will be allowed to end a tenancy for most reasons EXCEPT those related to the payment of rent and/or utilities after the state of emergency was declared on March 18, 2020. Landlords may issue a notice to end tenancy for outstanding arrears incurred prior to the state of emergency. BC government assures that transition provisions are being developed to give tenants more time to repay arrears and more details will be available in the coming weeks. Tenants are reminded, however, to pay their rent wherever possible or they could face future eviction. We will be monitoring the news closely and keeping you posted of any updates. Learn more here.
As you know, we have been working restlessly to support BC Community Educators to continue delivering courses throughout these challenging times in a format that works best for them, be it in-person with physical distancing, virtual or a blend of virtual and online. If you are considering to resume delivering RentSmart courses, but not sure where to start or doubting that it is possible, please reach out to us. We can work together to brainstorm ideas on how to make RentSmart knowledge available to your clients in a way that works best for you and for them.
We would also like to remind you that we are continuing to offer free print Certificate and Basics manuals with the generous support of BC Housing. If you are planning on running a course and need free manuals, please reach out to Aygul. Until the end of July, we are also offering free electronic RentSmart Basics booklets, that you can e-mail to your participants.
We are also continuing to provide bursaries for the RentSmart Online course. If you would like to refer someone who is comfortable with online learning and needs to get the knowledge quickly, please contact us for more information.
Throughout this time, as always, please do not hesitate to email us and we can set up a Zoom meeting to check-in and explore all the options for making valuable tenancy education available to the people that need it.
