RentSmart BC has had lots of excitement this winter! To begin with, 2019 started off busy by delivering pilot RentSmart courses in the school system in Victoria. There was really positive feedback from students and teachers. We know that youth who are prepared have better first tenancies so RentSmart in Schools is helping them on their housing journey. It was great to see youth so engaged with planning for housing success!
RentSmart BC also continues to work on launching a systems update 2.0. This has been a work in progress for a long time and we are looking forward to putting forth a more user-friendly digital system for supporting Educators in planning and running courses.
We were honoured to be invited by K’ómoks First Nation along with M’akola Housing Society and M’akola Development Services to share the road map of affordable housing from development, application processes and tenant rights and responsibilities.
And most recently, we took part in the Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks retreat at beautiful Loon Lake (see picture below). Kate facilitated two classes for the youth, who said it was “very helpful, especially for those starting out”. Thanks for having us and for such a great time!
We will run a RentSmart Educator Workshop in Surrey in May, which still has a few seats available so book now! We are also looking forward to attending and speaking at the William Head Ethno-cultural Fair on March 1st as well as attending and speaking at the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association 2019 conference. We hope to see you there!
