The past few months have been busy in BC! There have been collaborate calls with Educators, including one on the RTA delivered by Russ Godfrey, conferences, presentations and opportunities in new areas of the country. Now that we are close to the middle of December, we just wanted to remind you of a couple of good things happening in BC.
Programs Generously Supported by BC Housing Continue:
Currently, there are still free RentSmart manuals available! If you are a BC RentSmart Educator and you are planning to run a course in the early New Year, January or February, you can order your manuals now and get them free. Having the opportunity to have free manuals allows us to open our courses to agencies that otherwise may not have the ability to offer this valuable course to the people they work with who are the most vulnerable. Each Educator is eligible to receive up to 25 Basics manuals or 10 Certificate manuals or a combination of both. If you have ordered your free manuals and already held your course, please contact Aygul as you may be able to get a second set of manuals free. A second set can only be issued to Educators who have already registered their first course.
We are also pleased to be able to continue to offer the online bursaries to those who are in remote locations and/or unable to attend a RentSmart course. With winter conditions already started in some areas of the province, this might be a good time to offer the online course. If you have someone who is not able to attend an in person course, please contact Aygul for a bursary code.
New Team Member
If you were on the last Educator call with Russ, in regards to the RTA, you were introduced to the new member of the Rent Smart Victoria Team, Michelle McElroy. She has been busy learning the RentSmart curriculum, delivering RSB and RSC courses to the public and in high schools, as well as taking part in the 2019 BC Housing Central Conference.
She is now looking forward to begin being in contact with all the BC Educators. She wants to hear from you about how she can support you in your important position of RentSmart Educator. Part of her job is Educator engagement and she is excited to connect with everyone! If you need information, support or just wanting to say hello please feel free to contact her at the Victoria office or by e-mail.
Additional funding for the RentSmart Guarantee Fund
We are excited to announce that we’ve received additional funding support from Anne Hale, Audrey Johnson Fund and Sun Star Fund through the Victoria Foundation. This grant will be used for the operating expenses and communication activities of the RentSmart Guarantee Fund.
If you know of anyone who is interested in becoming an Educator or you need another Educator in your area, there is an upcoming Educator Training on February 10-13, 2020 in Vancouver and in Victoria in June. Please learn more here or contact the office for further details.
The Victoria office will be closed from December 24 to January 2, but available by e-mail if you have any questions or concerns that need immediate attention. We look forward to continuing to work with all of you in 2020!
